Chateau de Gilly
“Be True to You
As you set out on life’s road
unsure of the path you’ll go,
the most important thing you can do
is to always be true to “you”
Always remember who you are
in moments of struggle or fear.
Never forget or give up on
the hopes and dreams you hold dear
There will be setbacks and rejection
and moments of failure too,
but you must overcome any frustration
to achieve the potential of you.
Don’t forget to smile, or laugh,
or to live in the present;
no matter where life takes you
make every memory pleasant.
As you travel along your journey,
know that you’re never alone
and I’ll always be here for you
should you need the comfort of home.”
The Château de Gilly has a rich history dating back to the 14th century. It was originally an abbey, founded by Cistercian monks in 1575. The abbey was known for its vineyards and the production of wine. In the 18th century, it was converted into a château.
The château is an excellent example of Burgundian architecture, characterized by its traditional stone construction, classic French gardens, and a picturesque setting amidst vineyards and lush countryside. The historic buildings and well-preserved interiors offer a glimpse into the past.
The Chateau is wonderful, but didn’t have a chance to enjoy it.
It was a short ride from Beaune. No long distance riding.I pushed myself a bit just to be on time with their activity — a visit to a black currant. I ran into Sylvia on way in to the village. Seeing a friend in a new place, a village full of history, was a delight. I got off my bike and walked together, then joined Tess and Victoria for a black currant visit. Well, an interesting visit, but I would rather be tasting wine.
Riding through vineyards and villages was a delight. It was an experience that motorists don’t experience. The air, the landscape, the aroma, and so on. The feeling that you are right there to appreciate its beauty.
Another fine dinning and indeed, an enjoyable one. Quite a contrast from all the campsites that I’ve been to. Enjoying the moment, for it doesn’t last long.
