Jars - Sancerre - Nevers

Marseilles-lès-Aubigny

Starting off in Jars — rolling hills until Sancerre. I arrived at the top of Sancerre without a steep climb. At this time, it was much easier. From Sancerre, it was downhill until to the next town where I did a bit of shopping, before heading to Nevers.

Nevers is a city with a rich cultural heritage, historical significance, and a charming atmosphere. It's a place where visitors can explore both its architectural marvels and the tranquil beauty of the Loire River. It offers beautiful riverside walks and parks, making it a pleasant destination for those who appreciate scenic views and green spaces.

Although I didn’t have time to explore Nevers, it is something that I’d like to do in the near future. It is always good to come back next time taking it the opposite way.

It was beautiful ride along the way and the trail was flat and clean. I stopped to have lunch in one road. Then, a guy with a gravel bike also took this spot to take a break. We chatted and came from Orleans and had put almost 100 K. He would be stopping in Nevers and that’s also my destination for the day. I booked a B&B place and this would be my second private stop. No campsite at this time. Anyway, the guy who stopped next to me works for air conditioning Carrier. We had a good chat together. He was feeling a neck and back pain after a long ride. That’s good to know, because I thought of getting a gravel bike. I would not use gravel bike for bike touring. However, it is lighter and goes faster. You could cover more distance in such a short time. Many avid bikers are up to gravel bikes nowadays. It is a trend and I’m glad that I didn’t push through it.

At this time again, I stayed in a private place in Nevers. No campsite. I met the owners and had dinner with them. Although the meat wasn’t that great, it was acceptable good enough.
