Holy Name Cathedral
After spending time with my sister Tess and our friend, Sylvia, we wrapped up our get-together with a Sunday mass at Holy Name Cathedral. It’s a wonderful feeling to come here and express our feelings of gratitude for all the blessings from the Lord. Our life is a gift to express our love to one another.
History: The cathedral has a rich history dating back to the mid-19th century. The original Holy Name Cathedral, a wooden structure, was dedicated in 1846. However, it was destroyed in the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. The current cathedral, built in a Gothic Revival style, was dedicated on November 21, 1875.
Architecture: Designed by the architectural firm of Patrick Charles Keely of Brooklyn, New York, Holy Name Cathedral exhibits Gothic architectural elements. The exterior features pointed arches, intricate stone carvings, and a tall spire. The interior is adorned with beautiful stained glass windows, ornate decorations, and a sense of grandeur befitting a cathedral
