Bike Friendly City

It is always a delight for cyclists to enter a city that is easy to navigate around. Bike lanes are well designed and not interrupting the flow of traffic. We’ve heard accidents between pedestrian and city bikers causing serious injuries and even death — the electric scooters. Coming from Trévous, I followed the pathway along Saône River and voila, I was in the city in no time.

Lyon is considered a bike-friendly city for several reasons:

  1. Extensive Bike Network: Lyon has a well-developed network of dedicated bike lanes and paths that make it easy and safe for cyclists to navigate the city.

  2. Vélo'v Bike Sharing System: The city offers a popular bike-sharing program called Vélo'v, which provides thousands of bicycles at hundreds of stations across the city. This makes cycling accessible to both residents and visitors.

  3. Infrastructure: Lyon has invested in infrastructure to support cycling, including bike racks, repair stations, and clear signage.

  4. Traffic Calming Measures: The city has implemented traffic calming measures such as reduced speed limits and pedestrian zones, making the streets safer for cyclists.

  5. Promotion of Cycling: Lyon actively promotes cycling through various initiatives and events, encouraging more people to use bikes as a primary mode of transportation.

  6. Integration with Public Transport: The bike network in Lyon is well-integrated with other forms of public transport, allowing for seamless transitions between cycling and using buses, trams, or trains.

  7. Environmental and Health Benefits: The city emphasizes the environmental and health benefits of cycling, which aligns with its goals of reducing pollution and promoting a healthy lifestyle.

These factors collectively contribute to Lyon's reputation as a bike-friendly city, making it an attractive place for cyclists.
