First Day — Blue Lagoon
Starting off the summer of 2023 in Iceland reminds us that there are extraordinary places waiting to be discovered in every corner of the world. This time, Iceland welcomed us to its natural beauty.
At Keflavik Airport, we immediately went to a store to buy SIM card and at the same time, waited for our travel partners — John and Sharon — coming from Toronto. After Sylvia not seeing her friends for 15 years, they crossed each other and talked to each in Chinese just to make sure they were the right ones. At times, it is best not to know all the details. Just going with the flow adds something to any adventure.
Keflavik Airline seems like a budget airline to me. Using them as an International flight
What a way to start after a 6 hour and a half flight from Chicago. Blue Lagoon is a must-visit if you go to Iceland. Even though it, you have to shell out about 100 dollars to get in. We got a reservation at 8:00 pm. While waiting for our appointment, we decided to do grocery shopping and head to the campground. We also had lunch there before leaving.

Here is an overview of the ring road of Iceland we planned to take.
Renting an RV for the first time took some time to know how the RV function and get used to it. Instead of going to the campsite, we decided to go to Blue Lagoon, because it is closer from the airport rather than going to Reykjavik.
Today was also a holiday for Iceland — Independence Day. Luckily, we were able to find an open grocery store along the way.
Today’s highlight was going to Blue Lagoon. The Blue Lagoon is one of Iceland's most famous and popular attractions.
Location: The Blue Lagoon is located in the Reykjanes Peninsula, about 39 kilometers (24 miles) southwest of Reykjavik, Iceland's capital city. It is conveniently situated near Keflavik International Airport, making it easily accessible for travelers arriving or departing from Iceland.
Geothermal Spa: The Blue Lagoon is a geothermal spa that offers visitors a unique bathing experience in mineral-rich, milky-blue waters. The water's blue color is a result of the high silica content and the reflection of sunlight.
Health Benefits: The waters of the Blue Lagoon are believed to have healing properties due to their mineral content, particularly silica and sulfur. Many visitors enjoy bathing in the geothermal seawater, which is said to have potential benefits for the skin and overall well-being.
Facilities: The Blue Lagoon features a range of facilities to enhance visitors' experience. These include changing rooms, showers, saunas, a steam bath, a relaxation area, and a bar offering refreshments and beverages.
Silica Mud Mask: One of the highlights of visiting the Blue Lagoon is the opportunity to apply a silica mud mask to your face while in the water. The mask is believed to have beneficial effects on the skin, leaving it feeling soft and refreshed.
Extras and Services: The Blue Lagoon offers additional services such as in-water massages, spa treatments, and beauty services. These services should be booked in advance, as they tend to be in high demand.
Visitor Tips: To make the most of your visit to the Blue Lagoon, it is recommended to book your entry ticket in advance, as availability can be limited during peak seasons. Additionally, consider bringing a towel, flip-flops, and a bathing suit, or you can rent these items on-site. It's also advisable to shower thoroughly before entering the lagoon, as this helps maintain the water's cleanliness.
Surrounding Area: The Blue Lagoon is located in a stunning volcanic landscape, surrounded by lava fields and moss-covered mountains. Many visitors take the opportunity to explore the nearby natural wonders of the Reykjanes Peninsula, such as the geothermal areas of Gunnuhver and Seltún, the dramatic coastline, or the volcanic landscapes of the Reykjanes UNESCO Global Geopark.
We had a great time here. The entrance fee included three things: a towel, a mask treatment, and a drink. This relaxing scene made things easier for all of us traveling in an RV for the first time in a recreational vehicle.
