Barcelona to Creixell

Barcelona — Sitges — V d’Gertru — Creixell

Itching for another bike tour after Eurovelo 6, Tarragona, Deltebre and Valderrobles came to mind. I’m familiar getting out of the city heading to Girona, but not on heading to Sitges and Tarragona side.

Starting from Zona Universataria in Barcelona, bike lanes looks good and well-marked and getting out of the city to Tarragona seems easy, but then, I kind of lost the marked bike lanes as I ended up merging with traffic and had to cross busy roads. In addition to that, road works is quite common during the summer season and detours are a norm and finding a connections is a challenge. Then, upon entering Sitges, I was forced to take national road joining trucks and cars to approach Sitges, but as soon I saw an opening to get out the road, I detoured myself and found my way to the center.

Sitges is a charming coastal town located about 35 kilometers southwest of Barcelona, Spain. Known for its beautiful beaches, vibrant nightlife, and rich cultural heritage. It’s a wonderful get away from Barcelona taking only 45 minutes by train. With lines of restaurants around, ordering a Paella or Fiduea, a Catalan cuisine is one of the best way to a gastronomic experience.

Arriving late in the morning had made me stop at a bar watching people passing by. Some beachgoers were already coming from the beach. This is a touristic town and over the years, it had established itself a community of LGBTQ and attracted LGBTQ communties in Europe and around the world. I once saw a gay parade in Barcelona many years ago, and that kind of disappeared. A film festival was also established and with lively nightlife — bars and restaurants, and chiringuitos (beach bars), it surely is the destination for visitors looking for a beach town close by.

I find it fascinating to be here. I love watching the local gays do their own thing. How they play a big contribution to the econony of Sitges. The next town Vilanova d’Gertru is also an interesting place to visit. Actually, you can hike there by taking the coastline trail. It is also a good place to kayak.
