Parc Natural del Delta de l’Ebre

Over the years in Barcelona, I had heard great things about the Delta de l’Ebre, but for a long time, I never had the chance to visit. It remained on my list—always in the back of my mind. After completing a bike tour in France, I spent over two weeks in Barcelona, unsure of my next move. I wanted to embark on another bike tour, this time with minimal planning. Starting from Barcelona, I finally saw the perfect opportunity to ride all the way to the Delta de l’Ebre.

Parc Natural del Delta de l’Ebre is a perfect mix of wild nature, cultural traditions, and peaceful landscapes. Whether you're interested in birdwatching, cycling, photography, or simply relaxing by the water, it offers a truly immersive natural experience.

Parc Natural del Delta de l’Ebre is one of the most remarkable and unique natural areas in Catalonia, Spain. Located at the mouth of the Ebro River in the province of Tarragona, it is the largest wetland in Catalonia and one of the most important in the western Mediterranean. The park covers about 320 square kilometers, featuring an impressive landscape of lagoons, rice fields, sand dunes, salt marshes, and beaches.

Ecosystem & Biodiversity

The Delta is a paradise for birdwatchers, as it hosts over 300 species of birds, including flamingos, herons, egrets, and ospreys. It is a crucial stop for migratory birds and a breeding ground for many species. The park is also home to unique flora adapted to the brackish and freshwater environments.

Landscapes & Activities

  • Rice fields: The Delta is one of Spain’s main rice-producing regions, and the flooded fields create a changing landscape throughout the seasons.

  • Beaches & Sand Dunes: The Playa del Trabucador and Punta del Fangar are known for their pristine, almost surreal scenery.xx`
