Biking in the Savanah Forest in Middle Fork
One of my favorite short rides in Lake County is the Savana Forest Reserve in Middle Fork. Coming from Lake Bluff and taking the North Shore trail that leads to the entrance of this park. It’s a gravel trail ride all the way. You get to pass by country houses, which are gradually hidden by vegetation nowadays. Along the trail, you get to pass through the trees and listen to birds chirping and whizzing by. Indeed, it’s a paradise for all the local birds such as red-winged birds, blue jays, American Robins, sparrows, chickadee, and etc. In springtime, birds are in their active period and it is the breeding season. It is a joy coming here and an easy ride for everybody.
Along the way, you get to see walkers, joggers, bikers, and bird photographers. This will be my first summer here and will continue coming until I leave for the summer holidays.
After the ride, we can’t resist going to La Panera for a hearty breakfast and soaking the morning sun. This is my first spring here and I really enjoy every minute of it.
