Follow your heart

It’s your heart that takes you to memorable landscapes. But it’s your endless passion for discovery that leads you there.

Carros de Foc was mentioned by my friend Roser who has explored many parts of Catalonia, Aragon, and beyond. She gave me an overview of this trekking loop and even handed me a special map to look into it. In just a matter of days, I was able to make a reservation in the huts along the way. Carros de Foc covers the national of Sant Maurici and Aiguestortes. Probably considered as the Swiss alps of Catalonia.

I started off in Mirador Presa de Cavallers and it was drizzling at this time. I just took my time enjoying the walk until I arrived in the first hut — Refugi Ventosa I Clavell. Dinner was about to serve. I immediately took a hot shower, put on fresh clothes for the night, grabbed a beer and sat across a guy who was looking at his map. Curious about his plans, I chatted with him. He was planning to take extra peak along the way en route to the next hut — Estuary Long. He gave me an extra map, before sitting at a designated table. I sat next to a French gigantic guy and he was wrapping up his route tomorrow. . and started having a conversation with a Spanish guy from Valencia. He told me that aside from going from one hut to another, he would add extra by climbing peaks along the way. He showed me a map and even gave me a copy. I also met a French guy who was ending his day tomorrow and heading back home.

We all started early. At first, I kept up with everybody’s pace, then, little by little, I was left behind. I also got lost by heading up rather than sticking to the rocks below. I had to retrace my way back, then went up Coll de Coltraix.
