Chagny à Dijon

Vélo Notes

After an eye-opening experience taking on stages of Eurovelo last year on the French side, I again look forward for an additional bike tour for the summer 2024. This time with the company of locals in Côte de Beaune. This will open up new horizon from another perspective. I’ll be accompanied by locals Monique and Dominique from Dijon who I met last year in Gevrey Chambartin. At this time, getting together in Chagny to Dijon.

Cháteau du Clos de Vougeot

Exploring the Loire Valley, Burgundy, and the Rhône Valley last year gave me an overview of French countryside — from the rivers and streams to the tree-lined roads. Each day ended with a delightful view of the landscape that made the journey even rewarding. I can go Burgundy again and again as I dig in deeper what’s out there and learning French is a big plus if I continue coming here.

Planning:

Chalon-sur-Saône is a charming town located in the Burgundy region of eastern France, nestled along the banks of the Saône River. It has a rich history that dates back to Roman times, and over the centuries, it has played an important role as a center of trade and culture.

One of the town’s most notable claims to fame is as the birthplace of Nicéphore Niépce, a pioneer of photography. In fact, Chalon-sur-Saône is home to the Musée Nicéphore Niépce, which is dedicated to the history of photography and the life of its famous native.

The town itself is picturesque, with its old town featuring narrow streets, half-timbered houses, and a variety of historical buildings. The Saint-Vincent Cathedral, with its striking Gothic architecture, is a focal point in the town center. There’s also the beautiful Place Saint-Vincent, a lively square surrounded by cafés and shops, where locals and visitors alike gather to enjoy the atmosphere.

Chalon-sur-Saône is also known for its vibrant cultural scene, hosting various events throughout the year, including the renowned Carnival de Chalon and the Chalon dans la Rue festival, which is one of Europe’s largest street theater festivals.

The town’s location in the Burgundy wine region makes it an excellent base for exploring nearby vineyards and tasting some of the finest wines in France. Whether you're interested in history, culture, or just enjoying the scenic beauty of the region, Chalon-sur-Saône offers something for everyone.
