The turn of events in our lives can take us to unexpected places, and for me, Lake Bluff became a surprising destination. It gave me the unique opportunity to experience all four seasons in one place, something I hadn't experienced before. I consider this a once-in-a-lifetime experience because you never know what comes next — oh, the impermanence of life. At this moment, I am savoring the present and seeing where it leads me. I must say, being here is quite different from what I'm used to. I suppose living in various places makes you appreciate what you don't have.
Although I haven't stayed at a ski resort for an extended period, being here during the winter makes me feel like I am living in one, especially when the ground is blanketed with snow for days. The glass windows extending from the living room to the dining area create a sense of being immersed in nature. One night, I went down to the kitchen to grab a glass of water and noticed it was a full moon. The reflection of the glistening snow took my breath away.
Watching the flurries of snow blow from one side to the other while having breakfast is truly an idyllic experience. Another magical moment is seeing a herd of deer passing by as you sip your morning coffee. These moments create a sense of bliss that makes breakfast here truly special.
Having experienced all these wonders, nature constantly lures you to step outside and embrace what lies beyond. I couldn’t resist such an invitation, even though the comfort of staying indoors often makes me hesitate. I have always loved the snow, so it doesn’t take much coaxing to venture out and feel the wind and snow blowing against my face. It makes me feel truly alive.
I owe immense gratitude to my wonderful host Sylvia and her family to let me experience this. Thanks to their generosity and kindness.
